Grid Paper Printable

Grid paper printable: squares per page for 5 mm, quarter inch, 10 mm, half inch and 1 inch, on Letter and A4

Grid paper printable is a page of evenly spaced squares you print for graphs, maps, drawings and math. Choose a square size from 5 mm to 1 inch, pick Letter or A4, add numbered axes for graph paper, and print at actual size. The preview shows how many squares fit.

Worked example: 10 mm squares on Letter

A Letter sheet is 215.9 × 279.4 mm. With the 10 mm border every Print Pail sheet keeps, the drawing area is 195.9 × 259.4 mm. Ten-millimeter squares fit 19 across (190 mm) and 25 down (250 mm), which is 475 squares, with 5.9 mm and 9.4 mm of paper left over. On A4 (210 × 297 mm, the ISO 216 size) the area is 190 × 277 mm and the same squares give 19 × 27.

Pick the square size

  • 5 mm: fine detail, small sketches and pixel art.
  • ¼ inch: the four-squares-to-the-inch size many US worksheets use.
  • 10 mm: centimeter work, maps and early graphing.
  • ½ inch and 1 inch: big squares for young learners, floor plans and posters.

Graph paper with numbered axes

Tick “Number axes” and the sheet puts zero in the middle, draws the x and y axes, and numbers the lines (every second line at 10 mm, every fifth at 5 mm). Add “Heavier line every 5th square” to make counting faster.

How we checked the sheet

We set every combination of the five sizes, Letter and A4, portrait and landscape, with axes on and off: 40 combinations. Each one printed to PDF as exactly one page of the right size, and the number of squares matched the arithmetic above. The measured spacing on screen is 3.78 pixels per millimetre, which is the 96 dots per inch that CSS defines.

Grid paper checked before publishing: 40 print combinations, 40 one-page results, 0 squares miscounted

Your own printer can still change the size, so print once and hold a ruler to a square. The disclaimer says what we did and did not test, and the Print Pail home page has the multiplication chart, lined paper and dot paper.

Frequently asked questions

Is the grid paper really free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no limit on prints.

Why do my squares print smaller than 10 mm?

The print scale is probably under 100% or set to “Fit to page”. Choose Actual size and print again.

Can I print on A4?

Yes. Choose A4 in the paper list; the square count updates to match.

Do you have dot paper too?

Yes, dot paper is in the studio on the home page.
